The State of Perak in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia covers an area of 21,005 square kilometres. The early development of the state was based very much on the tin mining industry. In fact, Perak was the largest producer of tin in the world.

Besides tin, Perak is also well known for other natural resources. These includes the non-metallic minerals namely : limestone, marble, ball-clay, silica, kaolin, serecite, pegmatite and rich forested hinterland with varieties of commercial timber. The timber resources are harvested by adopting sustainable forest management to ensure continued supply of timber and to fulfil the requirement of the World Forest Stewardship Council.
Perak has a vast acreage of fertile agricultural plains and hills. It is here you will find the rice fields, rubber, palm oil, cocoa and orchard plantations.
Today, Perak hosts a number of manufacturing industries. Some are multinationals companies.
Ipoh, the state capital, became Malaysia's first industrialised city started by the tin mining industry. With this industry came the development of the foundary, engineering and machinery industry. The tin industry has left a legacy of highly skilled manpower in the foundary, engineering and machinery industry, which until today remains as one of her strong points.
Besides tin, Ipoh is distinctively remembered for the unique limestone outcrops that surround her.
The neighbouring States of Penang, Kedah and Selangor are easily accessible by businesses strategically located in Perak not only for their markets but also for developing business alliances. Over the years, companies in these states have created economic bonds in industries such as electrical and electronic, textiles, wood-based, metal fabrication, machinery, plastic products and other business services.

These four states account for more than 8.21 million people representing 37.02% of Malaysia total population. Perak alone has 2.11 million inhabitants, a significant potential workforce.
The policy of the State Government of Perak is to spur and steer the state's economy towards industrialisation emphasising the growth of manufacturing industry, promoting efficent utilization of natural resources, broadening and strengthening the manufacturing base.
"Beauty in Diversity" describes the people of Perak, a multi racial society of Malay, Chinese, Indians and others, a human potpourri living and working together towards common goals. Other foreign communities have made Perak their home. There are North Americans, Europeans, Japanese, Taiwanese, Australians and other nationalities.
